SEPIA: VINTAGE PRINT STORE

THE PROJECT
THE HISTORY
THE DESIGN
Maximizing versatility & giving the impression of posters hung on a wall, the design incorporates the ability of browsing prints on suspended touch screens. This allows the customer to visualize how the posters would appear as decoration in their home, office, etc. The intricate tree pulp used to make posters inspired the store’s display units. This concept is seen throughout the store through patterns & textures, relating the customer back to the roots of the vintage print.
“Vintage” is the new “thing”, as we see individuals gravitating towards making the old new again. The popularity of posters has had a sharp increase and has been attributed to the thriving industry of vintage art. Vintage prints have appealed to the twilight fancies and artistic sensibilities of the general public. They emit a certain glow, a soulful ambiance into any room that they adorn.
Sepia’s parent store in Rome enlisted help in opening a new store specializing in selling both classical prints and regional, travel-inspired images in the Tuscan region. The new location in Cortona was a market by-day and restaurant by-night. Although completely renovated, the original brick arches and façade stayed. A unique design for displaying and storing the prints had to be created, meshing the old architecture, with a new contemporary image.
*This project involved collaboration with 2 other students.
